Harmful Effects of Cosmetics

I know we all girls love makeup. Me Too. 
However I don’t use makeup regularly, just once in a while.
But I know lots of girls who use makeup on a regular basis.
Also Please limit or avoid makeup totally if you’re pregnant to avoid the Health Risks of Makeup.
Im specially scared of using anthing on my waterline.
Its very important that you don’t share your Makeup with anyone to avoid allergies & bacteria.
Please note the following Side Effects of cosmetics is just a word of caution for those who use makeup everyday.

Kajal use may lead to -
  • Dry eye syndrome - When the eye is unable to maintain a healthy layer of tears to lubricate & coat the eyes.
  • Glaucoma – in which the nerve carrying visual information from the eye to the brain is damaged. This can permanently damage vision.
  • Conjunctivitis (Red Eye/ Soar Eyes) - infection of the membrane lining the eyelids.
  • Regular applying and removing eye makeup makes the skin around the eyes loose causing wrinkles & ageing.
Culprit Ingredients - amorphous carbon dioxide, lead.



Lipstick use may lead to –
  • Majority of the lipstick brands contain lead like L’Oreal, Maybelline, NARS, Cover Girl, etc.
  • Lead ingestion causes behaviour abnormalities & brain damage.
  • Dries the moisture from your lips.

Simple test to check if your Lipstick contains Lead:
  • Put some lipstick on your hand.
  • Use a gold ring to scratch on the lipstick.
  • If the lipstick colour changes to black, it contains lead.

Mascara use may lead to –
Thinning of lashes, neurotoxicity, infertility, irritation, cancer, immunotoxicity, blindness, biochemical or cellular level changes.
Culprit Ingredients - Mercury, Bronopol, propelyne glycol, benzyl alchol, triethanolamine , parabeans etc
Good Ingredients - vitamins A, E, keratin, wax, proteins, etc


Moisturisers & Lotions may lead to –
Birth defects, contaminated breast milk, reproductive failure & allergic reactions.
Mineral Oil & Paraffin in creams are comedogenic; they block your skin pores, causing breakouts, whiteheads & blackheads.
Emulsifiers weaken the skin barrier.


Nail paint use may lead to –
  • Acetone used as nail paint remover damages and weakens your nail.
  • Dark polishes stain your nails and turn them yellow
  • if you’re wearing nail polish, avoid using your hands to touch their eyes, as contents present in nail polish can irritate the skin around the eyelids.

Hair Dyes may lead to –
  • Coal Tar another ingredient penetrates your skin causing bladder cancer, also causes skin irritation and blindness.
  • P-Phenylenediamine in hair colours cause Reproductive toxicity, neurotoxicity, allergies, immune toxicity.
  • Others include itchy scalp, hair loss, burning, redness, facial swelling and breathing difficulty.

Talcum Powder/ Compact/ Loose Powder /Blush/ Eye Shadow use may lead to –
  • Silicates Talc is carcinogen (causes cancer), infection and allergies in the lungs.
  • Talc particles are capable of moving through the reproductive system. They get embedded on the lining of the ovary, if applied in large excess may cause ovarian cancer.
